SQL Server Database Application Performance Issues?

Are you hearing the dreaded words:

The system is really slow today.

Do you have SQL Server database applications that seem to be struggling to keep up with user demand or deliver information as fast as required?

It may not be all the time, but at certain times of day or month that performance notably degrades

There are so many reasons that a SQL Server based application may perform badly.

Database applications can perform badly for a number of reasons. Here are just some:

  • Server specification not up to the job

  • Network congestion

  • SQL Server not configured optimally

  • Database Design not perfect for the job

  • Interactive users competing with Reporting/Data analyst users

  • Inefficient programming code in client applications

  • Inefficient Index and Locking strategies

  • Inefficient query design

The SQL Server Performance & Tuning course will address all these areas and equip delegates with the internal architectural knowledge and available tools to enable them to identify the cause of performance problems and plan to eliminate such problems leading to an efficient and well performing SQL Server database solution.

Course Description

The objective of this course is to provide senior database analysts, developers or database administrators with a good understanding of SQL Server Architecture and Query Performance so that applications and their supporting environment can be tuned for optimal performance.

The course will provide delegates with the knowledge required to size, plan, monitor and tune a SQL Server application for either a OLTP or OLAP environment. Everything from Operating System & SQL Server service tuning through to query and index tuning will be covered. It is a hands on course with performance and analysis tools being put to use throughout.

Course Pre-requisites

Delegates should have extensive experience with SQL Server 7 or later and should have a knowledge level equivalent to that provided by the PTR Advanced SQL, Stored Procedures & Triggers For SQL Server course . Knowledge of basic SQL Server  Administration would be beneficial.
