Overview
Course Overview
This course is designed for delegates who need to implement SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) to export and import data between mixed data sources. The course caters to both simple exchanges and more complex requirements, such as transforming data before it reaches its destination (e.g., loading a Data Warehouse). Delegates will learn to perform data cleansing tasks like de-duplicating and fuzzy lookups, converge heterogeneous data sources through transformations such as merge and union, and split single data sources into multiple streams using transformations like conditional split. The course also covers handling multiple import files with containers, including for and foreach loops, and much more.
SSIS Development and Workflow Creation
Delegates will gain a comprehensive understanding of the Microsoft SQL Server Visual Studio development environment. This includes the design, creation, and management of SSIS packages, and the use of Control and Data Flows to build workflows for extracting, transforming, and loading data. Throughout the course, participants will work with a variety of data sources, transformations, and destinations to create efficient ETL workflows.
Key Topics Covered
Data Cleansing:
De-duplicating and fuzzy lookups.
Transformations:
Merge, union, and conditional splits for data convergence and segmentation.
Containers:
Using for and foreach loops to manage multiple import files.
Debugging and Error Handling:
Writing solid code with debugging, error handling, and logging techniques.
SSIS Package Management:
Learning how to manage and deploy SSIS packages effectively.
The course provides practical training for handling both straightforward and advanced data transformation and migration requirements.
SSIS Versions and Exam Preparation
The course covers all versions of SSIS, from SQL Server 2012 to SQL Server 2017. It is suitable for delegates working with versions from SQL Server 2008 through to SQL Server 2016. This course, along with the SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) Course, helps prepare delegates for the Microsoft 70-463 exam: Implementing a Data Warehouse with Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014. This exam contributes credits towards the MCSA and MCSE certifications.
Additional Notes for Exam Preparation
While the course offers valuable training, delegates are advised to complement their learning by referring to the skills measured by the exam, undertaking self-study, and practicing test exams before attempting the actual certification exam.
Course Delivery Options
This course is available in both face-to-face classroom settings and virtual environments, providing flexibility to meet delegates' preferences and schedules.
Prerequisites
This course assumes no prior knowledge of SQL Server Integration Services. This course does assume prior knowledge of SQL Server database environments and the use of SQL Server Management Studio for development and administrative tasks. You should be familiar with database querying using SQL to the level of the PTR SQL Server Database Querying Course.
